Community Concerts & Family Shows

Mike's Community Concerts have developed from his popular Family Evenings, frequently arranged by schools to follow on from an Autoharp Day Workshop. Those in turn were inspired by Mike's experience as a headteacher ......

"During 1981-86 I used to hold regular ceilidh sessions at school on Friday afternoons - it was our Friday assembly and a lovely way to finish the week. Parents were often invited and at the end of the year we held a very special leavers' ceilidh for those children transferring to secondary education.

I remember those times with special affection, and it is a happy feature of my work that some schools enable me to retain this kind of contact with parents and children by booking me to put on a special musical evening linked with a day visit. I place a lot of emphasis on shared music on such occasions, with songs and tunes which can be enjoyed by all ages."

Schools' Family Evening

Even the dads get in on the act!

Many schools these days are looking for activities which can be offered to parents, staff and children together, provided by musical visitors who can offer a broad range of entertainment suitable for a family occasion. If your school has an active PTA where such shared activities are enjoyed, or if you are looking towards staging events which can be offered to all those people associated with the school, the Mike Fenton Combined Autoharp Workshop Day/Family Evening will provide a unique musical occasion for all.

The Family Evening is of about 75 minutes duration. This is usually offered as one long session of said length, or can be arranged as two shorter sessions with an interval. What format is decided upon is dependent on several factors - whether or not the school puts on a meal / light refreshments, the age of the children (infant, junior, primary etc), where Mike is working the following day, etc.

Christmas & Harvest concerts can be offered during the appropriate season.

Community Concerts

Increasingly, community, youth and other organisations are seeking ways to provide opportunities for people of all ages in their locality to experience 'the arts', frequently supported by local and national grants. Projects range from series of workshops for young people, culminating in a concert performance by the participants to 'one-off' evening concerts by professional artists such as Mike.

Mike's community concerts can be arranged to meet your requirements. If you are looking to provide something a little different and memorable for the community your organisation serves, contact Mike and he will be happy to discuss your requirements with you.
